The Lantern Theatre, Sheffield’s oldest and smallest theatre, is starting its annual Writing Festival featuring works by new writers next week – with one written by Disability Sheffield news volunteer, John Quinn.
The festival started in 2011 and this year has been entitled the Tenth (And A Bit) Anniversary Special as the pandemic meant it couldn’t be held last year. But to make up for it they will be holding two separate shows with a total of a dozen pieces, 11 writers, 10 directors, 22 actors and 38 roles.
Former journalist John’s playlet, Marks Of Respect, will be featured during the first week, with performances from Wednesday October 12th to Saturday 15th. The second shows will take place from October 26-29th.
Meanwhile plans are underway for a full-length version of John’s first theatrical work, A Different Kind Of Attention, which was written and performed for the first time earlier this year – with a disabled actor and director – after John took part in a theatre course organised by Ramps On The Moon and Leeds Playhouse and partly held at The Crucible.
