End 15 minute Care Calls

According to Leonard Cheshire, a leading disability charity, almost 20,000 people are still receiving 15 minutes or less for support with intimate care, based on data from councils that admitted the degrading practice in their area. The figure is likely to be even higher as many local authorities would not supply data following freedom of information requests by Leonard Cheshire. Flying visits continue despite statutory guidance within the Care Act 2014, which came into force in April 2015 stating ‘short home-care visits of 15 minutes or less are not appropriate for people who need support with intimate care needs. Read the Leonard Cheshire press release.

You can see how many get 15 minute visits in your area on Leonard Cheshire’s website and if you wish to do so ask Jeremy Hunt, the politician now in charge of social care, to demand more is done as too many people are not receiving enough care.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
