A leading charity representing people affected by dementia is calling for stories from those who have suffered an ‘unfair impact’ during the Covid-19 pandemic in order to improve social care policy.
The Alzheimer’s Society has been reflecting on a challenging year and is ready to make some long-term calls to Government
So for this year’s Dementia Action Week, which takes place 17-23 May, they are bringing social care reform back to the top of the agenda.
They say: “The Coronavirus pandemic has exposed the realities of a social care system no longer fit for purpose. Social care should help each of us live in the places we call home for longer, doing what matters to us, with a support system that we can draw on to live our lives the way we choose to with meaning, purpose and connection.
“In 2019, Boris Johnson promised to fix social care. Together, we will demand that this promise is kept and is the lasting legacy of the pandemic. In the meantime, if you are a person affected by dementia and the social care system, share your story and let’s show Government why social care reform is important to you.”
They have set up a Share Your Story page in order to help’cure the care system.’ You can also sign up for weekly updates on the campaign.
On a lighter note the charity is also fundraising with Denim For Dementia, a call for people to swap their joggers for jeans as lockdown ends. “Raising money to beat dementia has never been so casual!’ is their catchphrase. You can sign up for a free fundraising kit here.
