Cost of Living Support - What's New?

Cost of Living Support - What's New?

Sheffield City Council have introduced a separate phone number for people who want help to apply for the Household Support Fund on 0114 273 5258. The fund can help to support people who are struggling to afford:-

  • food and housekeeping costs(groceries, toiletries, baby essentials etc)
  • telephone and broadband (mobile phones, top-ups, broadband charge etc)
    gas and electricity
  • clothing, including school uniforms
  • white goods
  • wider essential needs not linked to energy and water should local authorities consider this appropriate in their area.

For all other Cost of Living support call their community support helpline on 0114 273 4567.

Sheffield City Council has produced a new NeighbourGood leaflet to read about what support is available.

Community Trusted Assessors
Trusted Assessors can help people in hardship access the support they need with bills, household essentials and more. This can mean a big difference to someone without access to a computer or digital device or someone who speaks a community language. Each organisation is based in the heart of our communities and many are Welcome Places too. Here’s who can help:

Voluntary Action / Sheffield Citizens Advice Sheffield / ZEST / SADACCA Multiply / Department for Work and Pensions Sheffield / SACMHA Health & Social Care / Meadowhead Christian Fellowship / The Terminus / Grace Foodbank / Shelter / SOAR / ACT / SPRING / New Beginnings / Crystal Peaks Medical Centre / Sheffield Roma Network / Woodhouse Medical Centre / Woodhouse District and Community Forum / Sheffield Credit Union / South Yorkshire HA / Guinness HA / The Archer Project / Roundabout / Snowdrop S6 Foodbank / DePaul / Northern Counties / Sheffield Young Carers / Arches Housing / Clarion Housing Group / Great Places HA / Sanctuary Housing/ Methodist Homes / Anchor HA / ACIS HA / Together Housing / Homes Group

Under the energy bills support scheme customers on prepayment meters have until 30th June 2023 to redeem their £400 vouchers. Vouchers were sent by post or email and will need to be taken to a Post Office or PayPoint vendor for the cash to be credited to the meter. If this hasn’t happened, people will need to ask their energy provider for one.

Warm Homes Sheffield covers a range of schemes available to help conserve energy in the home with insulation provision, energy assessments and financial incentives for heating homes for residents. The insulation offer is well worth a look. It’s available to Sheffield residents’ homes under council tax bands A to D. It’s easy to apply and is completely free – whether landlord or homeowner, the outcome is the same – a warmer home with cheaper energy bills.

Very good presentation, brave of the speakers to tell their stories and had a very high impact - feedback from Mate/Hate Crime presentation and video session at Safeguarding Working Together Conference

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
