Celebrate World Autism Acceptance Day!

Celebrate World Autism Acceptance Day!

It’s #WorldAutismAcceptanceMonth and today is #AutismAcceptanceDay – so we wanted to share some upcoming events hosted by several partners around Sheffield, as well as share some Autistic-led research around language and it’s importance to the Autistic community.

The way autistic people are spoken about should be decided by autistic people.

The autistic community are not one unified voice.

This is why we recommend that if the autistic person you are talking to expresses a specific preference for the language you use, then this should be respected.

A guide has been created which incorporates research and papers and details the language the majority of autistic people are comfortable with. CLICK HERE to learn more.

Sheffield’s Autism Festival that takes place between 15th-17th of April. For more information and to book your place, CLICK HERE.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
