A lot of home technology is not very easy to use for people with physical disabilities and you might have to rely on others to help you with everyday tasks. Researchers at the University of Sheffield are investigating how to improve technology to help disabled people to control their home environment. They are developing a new system which can use voice commands to help you do simple tasks such as turn on the TV or radio or use the telephone. Crucially the system can recognise speech even if the person speaking has communication difficulties. The researchers are looking for physically disabled people to help them test the speech recognition system in the home – especially anyone with communication difficulties (for example as a result of having a stroke or a neurological condition ).If you are interested in taking part in the Home Service research project please contact Stuart Cunningham for further information on ( 0114 ) 222 2421 or by email .
