Call to Write to your MP about Prepayment Meters

A campaign call has gone out for disabled people to write to their MP in a bid to stop forcing disabled people to use prepayment meters for their energy use. This is a scandal we have recently covered in our news blog.

And in the last 48 hours Ofgem has ordered energy retailers to pause the forced installation of prepayment meters . However, several major suppliers had already made the decision following the controversy over British Gas using court warrants to force the installation of prepayment meters after evidence that agents working on its behalf ignored customers’ vulnerabilities.

The latest letter-writing call has been organised through The Action Network, an open platform that empowers individuals and groups to organize for progressive causes, and sponsored by Inclusion London, which campaigns for equality for deaf and disabled people.

They say: “It’s time for this injustice to end and for disabled people to have access to the energy they need without being burdened by excessive costs and the constant fear of running out. Help us put pressure on the government. Please write to your MP and let them know this is an important issue that needs to be addressed “

You can find out more about the campaign and start writing your letter here.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
