Bouncing Hate Crime

Bouncing Hate Crime

The Youth Voice and Influence Service, Community Youth Services, Sheffield City Council and My Pockets have joined forces to create an animation about Hate Crime.

To begin with the group learnt about what Hate Crime is, who it effects and how often it happens. They were supported in the discussions by South Yorkshire Police and the Hate Crime Coordinator for Sheffield, facilitated by the youth voice and influence youth workers.

When they started to talk – they realised that they wanted to make an animation that was positive. There is so much anger in the world and they could see that to make a film that was negative or frightening would just add to that. They wanted to make something that stepped away from hate. What could be further from hate than a bouncy ball?

Once they had their idea, they wrote a poem and started animating using stop motion and digital techniques. They recorded the narration, made sound effects, music and impersonated the voices of the bouncy balls.

If you’d like to BOUNCE HATE watch their video.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
