The Care Quality Commission’s inspection report of Birdsgrove Nursing Home makes for uncomfortable reading and is a recent example of how England’s social care system is failing the most vulnerable in our society. With more than £4bn slashed from funding and care workers being forced to cut corners to deal with a growing ageing population, an article in the Observer Sunday magazine asks whether we should be surprised that allegations of abuse and neglect have now hit record levels. When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
