    SCR urged to consider accessibility issues in its Bus Services Improvement Plan

    On the 4th of June 2021 Sheffield Transport 4 All (ST4A) wrote to the Sheffield City Region (SCR) Mayor Dan Jarvis asking for his thoughts on boosting accessibility as part of the Bus Services Improvement Plan (BSIP). The plan is an essential component of securing funds from government to keep bus services running as passenger numbers recover over the coming years.

    Disappointingly ST4A still have not received a reply from the mayor that responds to the accessibility points raised and has brought this to the attention of Disability Sheffield.

Are you interested in joining a Lived Experience Advisory Panel ( LEAP ) for an NHS research project on improving mental health services for people from ethnic minority backgrounds?It is hoped that the first LEAP panel will be taking place in the last week of July on a weekday with a mix of people in terms of age, gender, sexuality and ethnicity.

    Mencap and Gateway Children's Groups

    Sheffield Mencap and Gateway have a range of new extra-curricular projects for children aged 6 – 16 with learning difficulties/disabilities or autism. There is something for everyone – from drama to fitness to technology.Sessions are best suited to children who can remain in one room for 45 minutes at a time and cost £3 per session.

    Cycling 4 All Update

    Sheffield Cycling 4 All is again riding high running sessions (which you have to pre-book currently ) in Hillsborough Park Monday to Friday and the last Saturday of every month. But their activities will be temporarily suspended due to the Tramlines festival from July 12th to August 3rd. You’re also invited to a presentation to design a mural for their new shipping containers on Wednesday 21st July at 4-5pm.

    Young Carers Activity Fund and E Vouchers

    Do you know any young carers who are isolated and in need of a break? If so, the Young Carers Activity Fund could help.As well as individual and group grants of £300, organisations can also apply for £20 e-vouchers for young carers. Young carers can use the vouchers to buy whatever they like to help relieve some of the boredom and stress of caring.There is no closing date for the vouchers, which will be allocated until the funding is gone.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
