    Sheffield Voices Shortlisted for Leaders Award

    Congratulations and Hoorah! Sheffield Voices has been nominated into the Learning Disability and Autism Leaders Award 2021 and are very happy to have been shortlisted. Sheffield Voices has been nominated for their outstanding work on raising awareness and challenging issues relating to bad practice and abuse of patients in inpatients units both in Sheffield and beyond.We hope Sheffield Voices will win!

  • Weight For It...

    Weight For It...

    Our learning disability group, Sheffield Voices has secured funding from Zest to run a 10-month weight management course for a ‘lighter life’ for anyone with a learning disability or autism who has a BMI over 25. The group is meeting every Tuesday at Hillsborough Arena from 1-3pm to learn about healthy eating, learn from each other and have some fun doing dance, playing boccia, curling and some general exercise. Places are still available so do get in touch if you’d like to know more.

    The line-up has been announced for this year’s South Yorkshire Autism Fayre from 12th-14th September 2021, which like last year will be held virtually due to the recent pandemic and health and safety precautions.     Sheffield Voices Express Anger Over Abuse Scandal

    Learning disabilities self-advocacy group Sheffield Voices has called for change and expressed anger in a video after an autism and learning disability unit was closed to new admissions . A CQC report identified that The Firshill Rise unit was not safe or effective and people experienced harm because of a lack of protection, abusive incidents, restraint and seclusion.

    Sheffield Mencap and Gateway have a range of new extra-curricular projects for children aged 6 – 16 with learning difficulties/disabilities or autism. There is something for everyone – from drama to fitness to technology.Sessions are best suited to children who can remain in one room for 45 minutes at a time and cost £3 per session.

  • Free PPE to Collect

    Free PPE to Collect

    Anyone providing unpaid care and support to an adult with a disability or long term impairment, including a learning disability and/or autistim, living in a different household, can now obtain free PPE from one of the seven main family centres in the city. The packs contain: face masks, shields, aprons and gloves.This provision is in line with updated government guidance which includes information on washing hands, use of PPE, and respiratory hygiene.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
