    Burton Street in partnership with South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue have announced the launch of their poetry competition. If you’re an adult with a learning disability and love writing poetry you have until Sept 3rd to submit your poem about Hate Crime and/or Bullying.

  • Shine Out on Saturdays with Sheffield Mencap

    ‘Shine Out on Saturdays’ is a performing arts project from Sheffield Mencap for young people aged 10-18 with learning disabilities and/or autism, using drama, dance and art as a tool to develop self-confidence and social skills. The project runs fortnightly on a Saturday morning from 10am to 12.30pm and costs £3 per session.

  • #MyGPandMe Campaign for People with Learning Disabilities or Autism

    This campaign by the charity Dimensions aims to make doctors’ surgeries more accessible for people with learning disabilities or autism following their research showing that almost a third of people with learning disabilities or autism feel less likely to be treated with care and concern at the doctors, and two thirds said their GP did not make reasonable adjustments for them.

  • Employ Me - Here I Am

    Employ Me is Mencap’s employment programme developed with people with a learning disability and designed to help people with a learning disability to learn new skills and find work. The service is free to anyone unemployed with a learning disability over the age of 18.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
