The Disability Unit at the Cabinet Office is developing a national strategy for disabled people. Publication is planned for Spring 2021. To help the government with understanding the barriers that disabled people face and what it may need to focus upon to improve the lives of disabled people, the Disability Unit has issued a survey hoping to hear about your views and know more about your experiences.The survey will be open until 23 April 2021. Responses received before 13 February 2021 will inform the development of the National Strategy, while those received after this date used to inform its delivery.

Sheffield City Council has asked us to conduct a survey to help them improve the direct payments system. They want people who use direct payments to say what they think about what works well and what doesn’t. They want to find out from people who don’t use direct payments about the barriers to taking them up and any barriers that might affect take-up by particular groups of people. Each month Healthwatch Sheffield collate enquiries from members of the public, feedback from voluntary sector colleagues, and stories shared on Care Opinion about issues Sheffield people have faced while trying to access health and social care services during the pandemic. Healthwatch Sheffield also conducted a survey from late May to late July to find out how changes in Health and Social Care services caused by the pandemic affected local people, and the way they access support and have recently published their findings.

Do you have a family member or friend living in a care home ? Is access improving? Is family contact becoming more meaningful and appropriate? If not, where do the problems lie? Healthwatch Sheffield, Disability Sheffield, Sheffield Carers Centre and Age UK Sheffield are all supporting a survey by John’s Campaign, which wants to make sure that people can visit relatives in care homes safely. This survey can help Healthwatch Sheffield see what visiting is like for you, and whether more needs to be done to support you and your relative or friend to have meaningful contact. The closing date for the survey is 30th November 2020.

Carers UK, an organisation designed to help the 6.5 million people in the UK who care for older, disabled or seriously ill loved ones, has set up a new survey about the effects of Coronavirus on carers’ lives and on the lives of people they care for over the last five months. The results of an earlier survey were effectively used to campaign for more support for carers and better recognition of their needs. The closing date of the survey is Sunday September 27.

The information from this survey will be used to help Sheffield City Council produce a short-term care strategy for older people. The survey closes on 25th September.The consultation is primarily for unpaid carers, social care workers and anyone using short-term care to complete.

Shaping Our Lives has launched a new survey asking d/Deaf and Disabled people what impact the COVID-19 lockdown has had on their independent living. There are 10 sections in the survey and many of the questions have a choice of answers. You are able to skip any question you wish and all answers will be kept anonymous. The findings will be used to tell people in national and local government the support d/Deaf and disabled people need to get back to living independently, feeling safe and confident.
