Signing up for Vitamin D Supplements

The government has recommended taking a Vitamin D supplement during the Autumn and Winter months and is offering a free 4 month supply for adults who are clinically extremely vulnerable. If you would like to opt-in to receive your free supply of vitamin D, you will need to register your details between 30 November 2020 and 4 January 2021.

Tier 3 Restrictions from 2 December

The Government has announced that Sheffield will come out of lockdown on Wednesday 2 December and enter into the tier 3 ‘Very High’ alert category, along with Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham. Some tier 3 restrictions will be different this time compared to when Sheffield was in tier 3 before lockdown started on 5 November.The government will announce the arrangements that will be in place over the Christmas period shortly.

New Guidance for Adults who have Down’s Syndrome

Adults (18 and over) who have Down’s syndrome have been added to the group of people who are classed as clinically ‘extremely vulnerable’ and at higher risk from Coronavirus. In England GPs have been asked to contact patients affected by this decision to discuss what it means for them and their specific health needs. Second 'Lockdown' Support for 'Extremely Vulnerable' Criticised

Disability Rights UK has criticised the Government for its latest Coronavirus ‘lockdown’ guidance, which they say has left ‘extremely vulnerable’ people unsure what to do. They say the new guidance to get access to priority supermarket deliveries or ask for local support , falls short of the fuller protections offered back in the Spring.

England to go into 'Lockdown' on 5 November

Following alarming predictions about the growth of Coronavirus and the impact on the NHS, England ( and Sheffield )is set to start a ‘second national lockdown’ on Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December. Tougher measures will be familiar from the first lockdown, the big difference is that schools, colleges and universities will remain open. ‘Shielding’ measures are not set to come back as before for the most vulnerable people who along with the over 70s, have been told to be “especially careful to follow the rules and to minimise their contacts”.

Speakup are raising awareness about the new Covid 19 Grab and Go sheet this week. If you have a learning disability or autism and need to go into hospital because of Coronavirus the Grab and Go sheet gives the information doctors and nurses need. Book a Grab and Go session on Zoom taking place every day this week from 11am to 12 noon.
