The Government’s National Coronavirus Testing Programme has now expanded capacity to test other frontline workers, including all personal care assistants (PAs) who are having to self-isolate due to having coronavirus-like symptoms or because a member of their household has symptoms.We have posted the latest details on how your PA can self refer for a test in Sheffield. PAs eligible for testing should be swabbed as soon as possible within 5 days of developing symptoms. Household members should be swabbed within 10 days of developing symptoms.

By answering some quick questions, people can help the NHS plan its response to coronavirus. The National Charity Rethink Mental Illness Charity and on a more international scale the “Covid-19 Disability Rights Monitor” are also seeking your views.

People from blind and deaf communities say they have been left feeling isolated, scared and at risk due to a lack of access to vital information during the coronavirus crisis. A group of charities have told the Government they’re concerned over the way the particular needs of disabled people are not being taken into consideration in official communications.

Please note that this delivery service is not a crisis service and is being run by people who have volunteered to risk themselves to help people in need. Please only use this service for essential items, if you have no other way of getting them.

The outbreak of Coronavirus is a public health issue and as such certain precautions need to be taken by both employer and employee and both parties need to be aware in these difficult circumstances of their employment duties and rights.

Campaigners Disabled People Against Cuts have backed a group fighting for disabled people – many of whom have learning difficulties – who are challenging Minimum Income Guarantee cuts, which they say will dramatically increase care charges
These cuts are being imposed by Norfolk County Council, but DPAC are calling on people from all over the country to provide evidence for a ‘test case’. If you have had care charges increased and are struggling to pay these DPAC are asking if you could send them a short email outlining the issues you face with charging or refusal to allow Disability Related Expenses.

Reclaiming Our Futures Alliance is coordinating the ‘Independent Living Film Project’ and is calling for disabled people to make a short video to tell everyone how important the concept of living independently is to you. Your videos will help to raise awareness about independent living and what it means in order to prepare the ground for an Independent Living Bill.
