The charities Ambitious about Autism and The Autism Education Trust have launched their Transition to Employment Toolkit to support disadvantaged autistic young people into the job market, following the Coronavirus pandemic.

This could apply to situations to do with Coronavirus and may be useful to support management of circumstances where personal assistants request time off work to help someone who depends on them if they become unwell due to COVID-19 .

Sheffield City Council has commissioned the Endorphins Group to supply a fully funded key worker service to assist clients aged 18+ who are unemployed or economically inactive.Lead Worker Paul says “Our staff have worked with people who have been held back because others have seen their disability and not their potential. We believe in challenging society’s stereotypes and supporting everyone to reach their goals and see just what they can do.”

Government support for shielding came to an end on 1 August. Following new guidance clinically extremely vulnerable people will no longer receive food boxes and medicine deliveries and can return to work as long as the workplace is Covid-secure. The changes have raised concerns among Disabled People’s Organisations that a one size fits all approach to stopping shielding could leave some people with no option but to return to unsafe public transport and work places, which put them at an unacceptably high risk of catching the virus”.
