Bus Access For Wheelchair Users Update

Although the final Supreme Court ruling fell short of making it a legal requirement for bus companies to compel non-wheelchair passengers to move from the space, the Government has now said it aims to implement new measures including clearer signs saying wheelchair users have priority and powers for drivers to eject passengers who refuse to move.

The Street Triage Research Project

Street Triage involves a combined mental health service and policing approach to mental health crisis care. A Street Triage team might consist of a police officer and a mental health practitioner, working together to help a person experiencing mental health difficulties.If you have accessed the Sheffield Street Triage team at any point since 2013 researchers at the University of Sheffield would like to hear about your experiences.

Ban on plastic straws disadvantages disabled people, says Paralympian

A recent move by businesses to stop using plastic straws in a bid to be more eco-friendly has caused some concern in parts of the disabled community.Many cafes, bars and restaurants throughout the UK are stopping using plastic straws, which has unforeseen consequences for disabled people, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson says.

SNAP Seeks your Experiences of Low Pay and Insecure Work in Sheffield

Sheffield Trades Union Council has commissioned researchers from Middlesex,Staffordshire Universities and Sheffield Hallam University to undertake research to support the Sheffield Needs A Pay Rise campaign. The research will focus on and seek to capture the experiences of people, including disabled people, who are or have been in low paid and insecure employment (zero hours contracts, temporary and part time work) plus any impact on claiming benefits, including Universal Credit. A focus group for disabled people is planned for w/c 16 April if you would like to take part.
