Sheffield Flourish want to continue finding out how the lockdown is affecting you and your mental health, and have produced a survey to gather your views. The survey aims to help Sheffield Flourish better understand the continued impact of Coronavirus on the people of Sheffield and is completely anonymous.

Moving Medicine have produced a range of resources that aim to help people take control of their COVID-19 recovery. The resources have been developed by doctors and medical experts with the help of COVID 19 patients, and includes a handy tips patient information leaflet, active recovery workbook, and exercise programmes.

Pride in Sheffield was formed in 2019 . Their committee is dedicated to delivering a great Pride for the community, working with local and national LGBTQ+, BAME & Trans community groups, partners and sponsors to organise Pride events all year round. The elections for all their committee roles are now open if you wish to nominate yourself and a Q&A with former committee members it taking place on Thursday 13 Aug over Zoom. Nominations close on 31 August.

From 8 August face coverings need to be worn in additional indoor settings, unless you are exempt from wearing a face covering. We’re reminding you that Greg Fell, Director of Public Health in Sheffield, in his July video ,explained the importance of wearing face coverings correctly with continued social distancing and hygiene. He emphasised that the most important ways to control the pandemic are to stay at home if you have symptoms, keep your distance where possible, wash your hands frequently and wear a face covering in enclosed public spaces if you are able to do so.

Everyone knows current welfare benefits are failing, but what would be a better approach? The Commission on Social Security ,set up by welfare system users to suggest ways in which it can be improved, has issued an invitation to an online event to discuss their proposals on Wednesday August 12 from 7 to 8.30pm. All the Commissioners are Experts by Experience. This means they each have lived experience of the benefits system and come from a range of claimant/user-led groups and Deaf and Disabled People’s Organisations.

Sheffield City Council have launched a survey asking for your views about short-term care for older people. The information from this survey will be used to help Sheffield City Council produce a short-term care strategy for older people. The survey closes on 25th September.The consultation is primarily for unpaid carers, social care workers and anyone using short-term care to complete.

Government support for shielding came to an end on 1 August. Following new guidance clinically extremely vulnerable people will no longer receive food boxes and medicine deliveries and can return to work as long as the workplace is Covid-secure. The changes have raised concerns among Disabled People’s Organisations that a one size fits all approach to stopping shielding could leave some people with no option but to return to unsafe public transport and work places, which put them at an unacceptably high risk of catching the virus”.

The first of three local Coronavirus testing units opened on 29 July and is based at Alderson Road Car Park in Sharrow. The unit will be operating from 8am-8pm for a three month period, allowing people with symptoms to get tested for free.Tests can be arranged by calling 119, can be booked or you can walk-in without an appointment.

Shaping Our Lives has launched a new survey asking d/Deaf and Disabled people what impact the COVID-19 lockdown has had on their independent living. There are 10 sections in the survey and many of the questions have a choice of answers. You are able to skip any question you wish and all answers will be kept anonymous. The findings will be used to tell people in national and local government the support d/Deaf and disabled people need to get back to living independently, feeling safe and confident.

New research by Healthwatch England has found that some patients receiving remote consultations found them to be inaccessible. It suggests that there should be no blanket roll out of video conferencing and urged the NHS “to use the right blend of communication for specific patients, blending text, phone, email, video and in-person.”
