    Join In The City's Big Conversation

    Sheffield City Council wants to hear from as many people as possible, of all ages and backgrounds, from every part of Sheffield, about the issues that affect you, your communities and your city. The Big City Conversation will be a chance to tell the council (and partners who work with them) about the things you need, the things that affect you, and how you feel you can influence decisions around these issues. Their next event is on Wednesday October 30 from 6 – 8pm at the Town Hall.

    People with a learning disability ( and/or autism ) are entitled to free Annual Health Checks from a doctor but not many people are aware of this provision including doctors and health and social care providers supporting people with a learning disability. Skills for Care are carrying out a survey to try to identify the reasons why people aren’t getting their annual health check and what can be done to improve uptake.

    The access guide set up by powerchair user Euan McDonald MBE is once more doing what is described as the UK’s longest-running access survey – and there is a chance of prizes for all those taking part.Every year the survey aims to find out if access across the nation is improving or otherwise. This year’s survey covers all sorts of venues and attractions and asks people to nominate the best places to go.

    Crystal Peaks 'Sensory Sundays'

    On the last Sunday of every month from 10am to 2pm Crystal Peaks offer a range of measures to make the shopping experience more inviting to people who prefer a quieter environment.Stores will turn off their music, or turn it down to a low level. Hand driers will be switched off as well as children’s rides. Vending machines will also not make a sound. Sensory Sundays may be of particular interest to people with autism.

    Did you know that Primary Care Sheffield now provide a range of NHS urgent and routine healthcare services on weekday evenings and at weekends through six ‘satellite hubs’ across Sheffield? The services available include urgent appointments with a GP, practice nurse appointments and appointments with a physiotherapist for assessment.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
