Second 'Lockdown' Support for 'Extremely Vulnerable' Criticised

Disability Rights UK has criticised the Government for its latest Coronavirus ‘lockdown’ guidance, which they say has left ‘extremely vulnerable’ people unsure what to do. They say the new guidance to get access to priority supermarket deliveries or ask for local support , falls short of the fuller protections offered back in the Spring.

England to go into 'Lockdown' on 5 November

Following alarming predictions about the growth of Coronavirus and the impact on the NHS, England ( and Sheffield )is set to start a ‘second national lockdown’ on Thursday 5 November until Wednesday 2 December. Tougher measures will be familiar from the first lockdown, the big difference is that schools, colleges and universities will remain open. ‘Shielding’ measures are not set to come back as before for the most vulnerable people who along with the over 70s, have been told to be “especially careful to follow the rules and to minimise their contacts”.

Short-term Care for Older People Survey Analysis

Sheffield City Council launched an online survey in July 2020 asking for residents’ views about short-term care for older people. Respondents indicated their priorities and suggestions for short term care including ideas such as coastal respite opportunities for person and carer, personalised outcome based breaks, and morning and evening respite options.

Call for Videos for Carers Rights Day

The theme for Carers Rights Day 2020 on Thursday 26 November is ‘Know Your Rights. Sheffield Young Carers and Sheffield Carers Centre are working together to make a series of campaign videos to mark Carers Rights Day. They want carers to understand they are not alone and that every carer has rights which can help to make their lives easier. They’d love your help so are asking carers to make a short video and send it to them by Friday 6th November.

Creativity In Lockdown Exhibition

Artists with learning disabilities and autism from South Yorkshire based arts organisation Artworks have organised a virtual gallery showcasing the artworks they have created whilst shielding during lockdown. There are 70 artists involved and pieces vary in style and medium, including both two and three-dimensional work.

Are you Affected by Town Centre Changes ?

Activist group Disabled People Against Cuts is compiling a dossier that they hope to present to local authorities to encourage them to not make alterations that adversely affect disabled people.
