The Department for Work and Pensions is reviewing many Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claims lodged by D/deaf people since August 2020.The review will take account of an Upper Tribunal judgement which increased the numbers of D/deaf people obtaining the benefit. Applicants do not need to provide any further evidence or attend an assessment and awards will be backdated.

The horrifying impact of the Covid pandemic on Disabled people risks being ‘airbrushed out of history’, Disability Rights UK and its partners have warned ahead of the looming public inquiry. The warning comes in a formal response to the inquiry’s draft terms of reference drafted by law firm Bhatt Murphy Solicitors on behalf of DRUK and a number of disabled people’s organisations.

New research by Leonard Cheshire paints a bleak picture of disabled people struggling to pay for essentials and concludes that disabled people must be prioritised for financial support.The charity wants the government to increase benefits in line with inflation, reverse proposed changes to the Warm Home Discount and provide better access to social care.

They are looking for adults who like to sing or listen to music, who are autistic (no formal diagnosis needed) who might like to be part of a choir that meets once a week. Disability Rights UK has teamed up with the Centre For Ageing Better to launch ‘Picture Yourself Active’, a new, publicly accessible image library of over 300 photos depicting older and disabled people getting active to challenge pervasive negative stereotypes. The images include some from Disability Sheffield’s Sheffield Cycling 4 All project at Hillsborough Park.

A protest against rising energy prices spearheaded by a Sheffield-based group has now taken off nationally, with another #BigPowerOff event due to take place this Saturday 16th April at 7pm. Sheffield City Council has launched a ‘guide’ to getting financial help and advice during the current cost of living crisis with suggestions of what to do if you’re struggling to pay your energy bills.
