Our Christmas Party on 20 December at Crookes Social Club was a fantastic evening and we’d like to say thank you to everyone who came along . We raised just under £400 but more importantly nearly 70 people attended including quite a lot of people who would not normally go to live music events but felt that our event was accessible for them.Special thanks to Morris from Crookes Social Club who is a star and so generous offering us the venue for free; to Pitball Panda and Yo Dymo for offering their time and fab music for free and not forgetting our favourite DJs Tom and Mark, thank you both for helping to make the party so memorable.

How Access Officers in Sheffield Help Secure Independence for Disabled People

Disability Sheffield as a member of the Access Liaison Group are supporting a petition that seeks to safeguard the access officer positions within Sheffield City Council. If Sheffield wants to be leaders in the field of inclusivity for disabled people then it has to lead by example and retain its Access Officers in order to ensure the involvement of disabled people around consultation and the built environment. This article includes a link to the change.org petition where our goal is to reach 100(00) signatures and we need more support.

The Disability Hub joins forces with Healthwatch Sheffield’s Health & Wellbeing Forum on Monday 2nd December 2019 from 1:30pm-4:00pm at The Circle to explore how financial pressures and hardship are impacting on people’s ability to keep themselves well. Join us for information sharing, dialogue and ideas as we hear from local experts from the Clinical Commissioning Group, Sheffield City Council and voluntary and community sector as well as stories from individuals.

Free Training for PAs and Individual Employers

Are you currently employed as a Personal Assistant for an adult over the age of 18 and feel you could benefit from further training? Do you employ your own Personal Assistants and want to further their skills and knowledge, as well as your own? If so, Disability Sheffield are running a number of FREE courses for Personal Assistants and Individual Employers in partnership with Skills for Care and Sheffield City Council starting this September until February 2020.

MPs Recommend Ban on Pavement Parking

Disability Sheffield are pleased to report that this month MPs have recommended a ban on pavement parking across England. Written evidence submitted by Disability Sheffield, the Disability Hub and the Access Liaison Group said accessibility to transport and the built environment is often reported as one of eight most disabling barriers to disabled people’s participation.

Call For Support for Workplace PAs
14 August 2019
The roles of workplace personal assistants (PAs), who support disabled people to do their jobs, needs to be more clearly defined and better supported if accessible workplaces are to flourish, new research by Sheffield Hallam and York Universities has said. Disability Sheffield has been asked to develop training materials based on the study which will be available in autumn 2019.

Review of Independent Advocacy Services 2018-19.

Sheffield Advocacy Hub, a partnership between Citizens Advice Sheffield, Cloverleaf Advocacy and Disability Sheffield is proud to present its annual review for 2018-19. As well as service user data the review includes stories from people who have used the advocacy service in their own words and outlines some of our important campaigning work carried out through the year. All Hub partners hold the Advocacy Quality and Performance Mark and follow the Advocacy Code of Practice.
