Review of Independent Advocacy Services 2018-19.

Sheffield Advocacy Hub, a partnership between Citizens Advice Sheffield, Cloverleaf Advocacy and Disability Sheffield is proud to present its annual review for 2018-19. As well as service user data the review includes stories from people who have used the advocacy service in their own words and outlines some of our important campaigning work carried out through the year. All Hub partners hold the Advocacy Quality and Performance Mark and follow the Advocacy Code of Practice.

We are recruiting a Project Co-ordinator for Sheffield Cycling 4 All

We are wanting to recruit a 2nd full-time project co-ordinator to join our existing project co-ordinator to develop our programme of engagement and activity. You will be helping to create and deliver new small group sessions for people with particular impairments or health conditions, as well as continuing to develop and deliver our popular open cycling sessions that have run for the past few years.The closing date for applications is 8am on Monday 5th August 2019.

Jamie In Volunteer Of The Year Nomination

Congratulations to Jamie Preece, a volunteer at our Sheffield Cycling 4 All project. Jamie has been nominated as one of Britain’s best volunteers – and will soon be attending a prestigious event in the House Of Commons to find out if he is a prizewinner.He is one of the entrants for the NHS Parliamentary Awards, an annual event designed to recognise the best of the National Health Service and those who go above and beyond the call of duty to help people.

Thank You for a Barrel of Fun and Fundraising

We’ve totted up the money and the final figure for the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party Fundraising event was an amazing £400!! Once again a massive thank you from everyone at Disability Sheffield to The Barrel pub in Chapeltown, their wonderful landlady Steph Tate and her fab team, the stallholders, our amazing volunteers, staff members and trustees, all of whom helped to raise the profile of Disability Sheffield whilst generating much-appreciated funds.

Disability Hub Meeting
19 June 2019
The next meeting of the Disability Hub is on Thursday 27 June 2019 from 2-4pm at The Circle and we’d love to see you there. The Hub is one of the ways in which disabled people can have a greater say on the services and businesses disabled people interact with locally.By providing a platform for disabled people to represent their needs together it is hoped we can strengthen the move towards a more equitable society, where disabled people enjoy the same opportunities as everyone else.

Could you be our Advocacy Manager?

Our lovely Advocacy Manager Lucy has a new job as Chief Officer for Healthwatch Sheffield. We are therefore looking to recruit a new advocacy manager. Our advocacy service supports disabled people to exercise their rights and be fully involved in decisions about their life. The Advocacy Manager is responsible for supporting and supervising the advocacy team, which delivers a range of advocacy (statutory and non-statutory) support as part of Sheffield Advocacy Hub.The closing date for applications is 8am on Monday 15th July 2019. Interviews will be held on Tuesday 23rd July 2019.

Volunteers' Week Thank You

This week host organisations are setting time aside to celebrate and say thank to volunteers across the country. The work we do at Disability Sheffield would not be possible without our valued volunteers who help us to deliver our services – answering information enquiries, providing advocacy support, writing about news and events , providing IT support, serving on the Disability Hub Committee, helping with admin, answering the phones, supporting Sheffield Cycling 4 All and Sheffield Voices learning disability group, helping with research, filming videos, the list is getting longer ! We thank each and every one of you, past and present, and hope that you are aware how much we appreciate your contribution and commitment , not just this week but all year round!

Workplace Personal Assistants Policy

Disability Sheffield has been working in partnership with Sheffield Hallam University and University of York to continue the development of their research project, Workplace Personal Assistants (WPA). We are keen to work with employers to develop a policy/guidance that can be adapted for each workplace and easily adopted by businesses to ensure that all aspects of having WPAs are considered.
