Sheffield REC Initial Findings

Sheffield REC Initial Findings

The Sheffield Race Equality Commission was established in Summer 2020 by Sheffield City Council to assess the nature, extent, causes and impact of racism and race inequality in Sheffield and to make recommendations for tackling them. It covered six major themes: Business and Employment;Crime and Justice; Civic Life and Communities;Education;Health and Sport and Culture.

The Commission has published an interim report ahead of the publication of the Commission’s full report in 2022.

The state of racial equality in the city,it concludes, remains a significant problem for Sheffield with some unsettling observations.

Sheffnews provides an overview here

Recommendations from the final report for tackling issues of racism and race inequality are now being collated and will, amongst other matters, identify principles of good practice and define responsibilities for key people and organisations.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.
