I Can Therapy Centre – ‘Move More, Feel Better’

Operated by independent charity Valley Leisure Ltd, the I Can Therapy Centre at The Woodstore’ 863 Ecclesall Road, Sheffield S11 8TH, is a new community based, power assisted exercise facility in Sheffield enabling people to ‘move more and feel better’.

‘I Can’ provides a “unique movement and exercise experience” designed to mobilise muscles and joints throughout their natural range of movement. The Centre features a circuit of eight specially adapted power assisted exercise equipment machines and one therapy bike – for people of all ages who may be inactive, disabled or living with a long term health condition.

Unlike conventional exercise equipment, the power assisted exercise equipment at I Can does not rely exclusively on muscle power but by an electronic power system which generates a user’s initial movement patterns. This enables users to move passively in the first instance. Depending upon a person’s ability and mobility, users can then exert their own muscular force therefore exercising ‘actively’ which will further improve strength and heart and lung fitness. ‘I Can’ claims it is an ideal and safe way to exercise and work all the major muscle groups and helps to re-train muscle movement patterns and at the same time stimulate the muscles for improved strength and circulation.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
