    New Green Homes Energy Efficiency Grant

    The Green Homes Grant is a new scheme which gives homeowners in England vouchers to help cover the cost of energy efficient improvements to homes. For most, the vouchers will be worth about two-thirds of the cost of the energy efficient improvements, up to a maximum of £5,000. However, if you’re on a low income or get certain benefits, you can get vouchers of up to £10,000 to cover the entire costs.

    Disabled people are among the marginalised groups invited to take part in an online workshop on how to improve the ‘broken’ social security system. Unite The Union has set up the workshop on Zoom on *Thursday 8 October , between 2-4.30pm. They are hoping for new opinions and have extended the invite to disabled people’s groups and individuals.

    Call to Remove the Coronavirus Act Easements

    Disability Sheffield has added our name to a growing list of signatories calling for the rights of disabled people to be restored. A group of over 60 organisations including Disability Rights UK, Inclusion London, Liberty and Mind have signed an open statement asking the government to withdraw the sections of the Coronavirus Act relating to disabled people, as the House of Commons prepares to review the Coronavirus Act on 30 September. You can sign the statement and contact your MP using a template letter.

    Living the Life You Want : Adult Social Care Review

    Sheffield City Council launches the start of their consultation today on their new Adult Social Care strategy for Sheffield over the next 5 to 10 years. Stage 1 of the review asks for your views on the proposed vision, principles and commitments of the strategy. “We don’t have all the answers. We need your wisdom, experience, and knowledge to help design our services in future. We want you to challenge our thinking, help look for solutions and really make adult social care in Sheffield the best it can be.“The consultation closes on November 29.

    Take The Chance To Prove We Belong

    Do you want to influence government policy? Disability Rights UK has launched their We Belong campaign inviting comments from as many disabled people as possible to influence the government’s National Strategy For Disabled People. DRUK are also holding a series of online discussions on different themes starting with two sessions on 30th September for disabled women, and two on 1st October for disabled people from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds.

    Caring Behind Closed Doors Survey

    Carers UK, an organisation designed to help the 6.5 million people in the UK who care for older, disabled or seriously ill loved ones, has set up a new survey about the effects of Coronavirus on carers’ lives and on the lives of people they care for over the last five months. The results of an earlier survey were effectively used to campaign for more support for carers and better recognition of their needs. The closing date of the survey is Sunday September 27.

    This year, with Coronavirus putting us all at risk, it is essential to get as much prevention as possible against flu.Changes have been made to make sure it’s safe to have the flu vaccine at GP surgeries and pharmacies. It’s important to go to your appointments unless you or someone you live with has symptoms of coronavirus. For the first time, this year, PAs will be able to access the vaccine free of charge from GPs and community pharmacies( using a letter of entitlement if required ) .

    Covid 19 Emergency Fund for Disabled People's Organisations Now Live

    The National Emergencies Trust has announced £1.5 million of funding to support grassroots Disabled Peoples Organisations (DPOs) across the UK to respond to the Covid-19 needs of disabled people. The funding will be administered and distributed through a partnership of DPOs across the UK. Disability Sheffield is the regional partner for South Yorkshire and the Humber.

    Closing date for applications is 5th October 2020.
