The Royal National College for the Blind (RNC) is the UK’s leading Further Education College for people aged 16 plus with visual impairments. RNC is a proven model of the effectiveness of a holistic approach. We incorporate medical, wellbeing and pastoral care alongside education and independence skills.

The differences between young people with a visual impairment and their sighted peers can be felt most acutely in their teenage years. As the curriculum grows more challenging, differences with classmates are often felt more acutely. Other issues can include worsening of existing symptoms, the development of a late onset condition or sight loss as a side effect of an injury or illness, while many students will also have a further disability or other complex needs.

The spectrum of conditions and circumstances make it impossible for any general FE provider to have the expertise to meet the needs of every young person with a visual impairment. This is where RNC comes in. We deal with dozens of different eye conditions each year, from the most common to the very rarest. Our experience enables us to respond to each individual’s needs and provide them with the right package of education and life skills to achieve their goals.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.
