Right to Try

The right to try work or volunteering is the new legislation coming into force on 30th April. It means that Disabled people who start work or volunteering no longer automatically face a benefit reassessment. The Right to Try applies to new-style Employment and Support Allowance, Personal Independence Payment, and Universal Credit health element.

However it is not yet clear how long people will have to ‘try work’ before being re-assessed and the government’s latest information about the legislation  Right to Try: summary at GOV.UK is short on detail.

Disability Rights UK while welcoming the policy as a positive step forward, are concerned that the scheme needs to come with the support to succeed .
