World Autism Day - National Emergency Services Museum Sensory Friendly Day - 10am-4pm

Tuesday 2nd April

World Autism Awareness Day is an internationally recognised day on 2 April every year, encouraging Member States of the United Nations to take measures to raise awareness about people with Autism Spectrum Disorder throughout the world.

The National Emergency Services Museum in Sheffield is launching sensory friendly days on 2nd April in celebration of this.

Throughout the museum they will use lights, sounds, smoke and smells to bring history to life.

Visitors can borrow their all-new sensory backpacks for their visits. There will also be comfy chill out zones on each floor.

Additionally, for these designated openings they will open with additional staff and with will keep the lights on.

The session will runs as follows:

  • 10:00 – 12:30 “Lights only” quiet sessions
  • 12:30 – 16:00 “Lights, sounds and smells”

The sessions will continue on the first Tuesday of every month.
