A message from our colleague Kathryn Littlewood, who is on secondment with the Department for Work and Pensions:
“Hello, as some of you know I am on secondment to the DWP from Disability Sheffield, leading a team of disabled people to in a nutshell improve the job opportunities for disabled people and have an impact on changing the culture within the job centres to make them a more inclusive place where people will want to come to get support. As part of this work, we have been working with staff in the job centre pull together all the public sector HR departments across the South Yorkshire region and we are holding events that will offer both job opportunities and opportunities to speak with the diversity and inclusion leads of several public sector service bodies who will be there to provide advice guidance and support for disabled people in Sheffield.
We have booked Sheffield Town Hall for the 11th July and would like to invite both providers to come in the morning 10-12pm and disabled people to come in the afternoon between 1.30-3pm to this event.
The morning slot will give you as providers a chance to network with valuable contacts and find out what roles are out there in the public sector. The afternoon slot will be for disabled people who may have thought about working for one of the named organisations but not really been sure how to get through to interview stage. They may even want to simply come and find out about roles and recruitment for the future.
All the HR departments from the Fire Service, SY Police, the local authority, the NHS, Sheffield Hallam University and Sheffield Colleges will be present at the event.
Feel free to just drop in at the event, no booking is required. The venue is fully accessible and there are a few disabled parking bays to the rear of the Town Hall.
