DPAC asks "How is Coronovirus affecting you?"

DPAC asks

Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) are becoming aware that the disruption due to the Coronovirus pandemic is having a particularly adverse effect on disabled people.

The effects are particularly noticeable as disabled people often have to rely more on public and other services which are getting cut back.

In order for DPAC to raise the alarm about some of these issues with the relevant authorities they need to know what is happening to you.

So if you are a disabled person or know a disabled person who is experiencing problems due to self isolation or other issues to do with this crisis please email DPAC at mail@dpac.uk.net . The sorts of things that they want to know about are:

  • Access to medical treatment and medication
  • Social care provision (including home help services)
  • Obtaining Food and other essential products
  • Problems with accessing information and advice (from Government, NHS, Local Authority other public bodies and utility companies)
  • Mental health, is your mental health being affected by the emergency and support and treatment
  • Access to work from home if required or the effects of being laid off during the emergency
  • Problems with housing, paying rent/mortgage etc

If you have any of these issues or other issues to do with the emergency please let DPAC know at mail@dpac.uk.net and please mark the subject/title of your email with “C19”. DPAC explain that they may not be able to respond to everyone who writes in and they may not be read straight away.

Disability Sheffield recommend everyone keeps up-to-date with the latest NHS Coronavirus Guidelines. Also remember to keep up to date with the information on the Disability Sheffield Coronavirus Information and Support Page which will be updated as new information becomes available. The Disability Sheffield Facebook and Disability Sheffield Twitter will also be posting Coronavirus information when we come across it.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Very good presentation, brave of the speakers to tell their stories and had a very high impact - feedback from Mate/Hate Crime presentation and video session at Safeguarding Working Together Conference

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
