Check Out Our YouTube Channel - thanks Andrew!

You may not be aware of this, but Disability Sheffield has its very own YouTube channel – which we have now made more accessible and easy to find.

It was set up around three years ago and made intermittent videos on subjects such as the Right to Housing, Hate Crime and Adocacy. However due to the lockdown caused by Coronavirus and the fact that disabled people are more likely to be isolated at home, we have greatly increased the number posted.

In the last two months we have posted nine separate items – with more to come in the near future. Subjects covered include debates on Coronavirus and life in isolation, as well as easy exercises for people with limited mobility.

Sheffield Voices, a self-advocacy group for people with learning disabilities, met regularly at The Circle in Sheffield city centre – where Disability Sheffield is also based – but as this venue has been temporarily closed due to Covid-19, they are now holding online meetings for people with a learning disability and people with autism and broadcasting them on the channel. It’s proved very successful and with our increased know how and confidence we’ve extended the video discussions to all disabled people every Friday. It’s been a great way to keep in touch and reach more people and participants really enjoy and look forward to the sessions.

Disability Sheffield YouTube now has its own icon at the top right hand side of our homepage to make it easier to log straight into.

It’s seems appropriate during Volunteers’ Week to take this opportunity to thank our volunteer Andrew for all his technical and camera skills , his hard work, enthusiasm and commitment to help us to make these videos possible.

We hope you enjoy looking at the videos. If you would like to find out more and join us in the next video please contact Disability Sheffield on 0114 2536750 or email kathryn.littlewood@disabilitysheffield.org.uk or even better send us a private message through our Sheffield Voices Facebook page. .

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
