Carers Wellbeing Course

Carers Wellbeing Course

Whether you are caring for a child, a family member, a friend or neighbour, the demands can be very challenging as well as rewarding.

It is also important that carers look after themselves as well as others. So Sheffield Health And Social Care has set up a new online Carers Wellbeing Course , which aims to provide support to unpaid adult carers.

Running over five weeks, the course is an opportunity to meet people who share similar experiences and together develop and learn new skills that may help in coping with the demands of a caring role.

You need to be referred by your GP, Sheffield Carers Centre or a mental health worker and tell them you are interested in the Short Term Educational Programme.

You also have to be:

  • Willing to learn new ways of managing your mental and physical wellbeing.
  • Interested in trying new skills both in the session and at home
  • Able to manage being in a group for up to one and a half hours.

If you’re not sure if the course is for you, you can speak with one of the team by calling 0114 226 2660 and asking to speak to a course facilitator.

The course runs once a week over five weeks. Each session will last no more than 90 minutes, carefully designed to reflect the realities and experiences of being a carer. Each week will also explore different relaxation activities. The courses run at various times throughout the year.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
