Black Lives Matter: Part of the Solution Focus Group

Black Lives Matter: Part of the Solution Focus Group

At Disability Sheffield we appreciate actions speak louder than words. It is not enough for us to say we support the Black Lives Matter movement, instead we must demonstrate our commitment to making sure we are not part of the problem. We have started out on this journey by setting up a focus group to identify any racism in our organisation so this can be correctly addressed.

In order to stop institutionalised racism we believe that the world must become a more representative place. We are therefore undertaking an internal review of our staff, volunteers and Trustee Board to identify what positive steps can be taken to make us a more diverse organisation, and to ensure that Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) people are properly represented.

We are also reviewing the services and projects which we provide in order to identify whether BAME communities are aware of their availability and accessing them effectively.

We appreciate that we do not have all the answers and would like to ask for feedback from anyone that has accessed our services. By telling us about your experiences, we can succeed in making Disability Sheffield an anti-racist charity.

To share your feedback, please contact us by email at pots@disabilitysheffield.org.uk or by telephone at 0114 253 6750. If you would like to remain anonymous you can do so by not providing your name.

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
