Advocacy Awareness Week

Advocacy Awareness Week

This week is Advocacy Awareness Week (28 Oct – 1 November) and this year’s theme is demonstrating the impact of advocacy. That’s why we’ve chosen to wait until this week to publish our recent annual report for our Advocacy and Information Service demonstrating the impact of the work we do and showing that we are accountable to ourselves, to the people we support, to our funders and our communities.

Case studies are included in the report which are a powerful way of showing how much advocacy matters . Taking action to help people say what they want, secure their rights, represent their interests and obtain the services they need, matters. As the National Development Team for Inclusion who are leading on Advocacy Awareness Week states:

“ Advocacy is a vital, essential, fundamental component of our services and our society. Promoting inclusion, equality and social justice, matters. Perhaps now more than ever.”

So this week we’re doing our best on social media to raise awareness of the importnance of advocacy , join in the conversation and celebrate all things advocacy #AAW19 #HearMyVoice #AdvocacyWorks .

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

A fantastic presentation thought provoking and good questions from the floor around promoting this film/message to the general public not just professionals.
