Thank You Day

On Sunday 4 July the country is coming together to celebrate Thank You Day, a new national day of recognition, to mark the Covid-19 pandemic.The aim is for as many people as possible to be involved, however they would like, so everyone who deserves it gets a thank you – and the whole of the UK gets together.

Leisure Time Sessions Returning

A fun and friendly group which organises leisure events for disabled people has restarted and there are hopes for expansion once Covid-19 regulations loosen up. The ‘Leisure Time’ sessions take place at Concord Sports Centre” on Friday mornings from 10.30-12.30 and costs £3.00 (carers free ).

Free PPE to Collect
28 June 2021
Anyone providing unpaid care and support to an adult with a disability or long term impairment, including a learning disability and/or autistim, living in a different household, can now obtain free PPE from one of the seven main family centres in the city. The packs contain: face masks, shields, aprons and gloves.This provision is in line with updated government guidance which includes information on washing hands, use of PPE, and respiratory hygiene.

Pause at Step 3 of the Roadmap

In England from 21 June, there’s a 4-week pause at Step 3 of the roadmap. After 2 weeks, the government will review the data to see if the risks from the new Covid variant have reduced. It’s expected that England will move to Step 4 on 19 July. It’s six months ago this week since the start of the vaccination programme. New Employment Toolkit is Ambitious about Autism

Autistic job seekers are among the most disadvantaged, with just 22% of people with autism in full-time paid employment, the lowest of all disabled groups. The charities Ambitious about Autism and The Autism Education Trust have launched their Transition to Employment Toolkit to support disadvantaged autistic young people into the job market, following the Coronavirus pandemic.

Debbie's Rambling is Accessible

Disabled rambler Debbie North, who was recently interviewed by Clare Balding for her Radio Four programme Ramblings,will be seeing the sights near Sheffield this summer as she leads an accessible and wheelchair-friendly adventure in the Peak District. Debbie, who lives in Cumbria was a keen hill walker until a spinal condition meant she now has to use a wheelchair. She is now passionate about making the countryside accessible.

Digital Data Sharing Date Delayed

A scheme to allow GPs’ information on their patients to be collated in a central database which could be accessed by third parties such as pharmaceutical firms and researchers has been delayed after pressure until September 1st. However there is still anger that people will need to ‘opt out’ and that this has not been advertised widely.

Urgent EU Settlement Scheme Deadline

Do you know a disabled person who needs support to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme? If they are a European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA) or Swiss citizen, they and their family will need to apply to get settled status before 30 June 2021. Please refer anyone you know to Citizens Advice Sheffield on 0808 278 7820 , who can help people with their application.
