DPLUOs are organisations run by and for disabled people. They focus is on offering peer support, challenging the ways people think about disability, and uniting disabled voices so they have a stronger, clearer impact right here in our community. Statutory Support
Statutory support available locally.
This is the main gateway for adults in Sheffield needing support. Sheffield City Council conducts needs assessments (Care Act 2014) to determine if a person is eligible for support, and what support they need. Support includes help at home, support for carers, and managing personal budgets.
Disabled Facilities Grants are means-tested grants from Sheffield City Council that can pay for major adaptations to a disabled person’s home. Adaptations include stairlifts, through-floor lifts, ramps and widening doors.
A Blue Badge allows disabled person to park your car in accessible parking bays.
SENDIAS provides free, impartial, and confidential help to children and young people (0-25) with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and their parents on education and related matters.
Sheffield City Council provides services, grants, and activities to give disabled children and young people enjoyable experiences while giving their parents and carers a break from their caring role.
A specialist team providing health assessments, diagnosis, support, and care for adults (18+) with a learning disability and their carers. They coordinate care across different health services to ensure complex needs are met.
This service provides diagnostic assessment and post-diagnostic support for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and diagnostic assessment and medication management for Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) in adults.
Access to Work is a government scheme providing grants to help disabled people start or stay in work or self-employment. Grants can pay for support workers, specialist equipment, travel costs, or mental health support.
