Learning Disability Carers Butty Group Continues Despite Reform

The Learning Disability (LD) Carers Butty Group is a group of family carers of persons with learning disabilities who meet on an informal basis every fourth Tuesday of each month at Sheffield Carers Centre.

The meeting is used by carers to have a chat with other LD carers to exchange information, find out what is currently occurring or may be in the future and to support each other.

In addition, the group can bring in persons to further discuss their interests or any other activity they require.

In the past the group has utilised the services of the Sharing Caring Project, however this project is no more due to restructuring requirements following the recently awarded Carers Tender to Sheffield Carers Centre and the subsequent reduced funding.

Due to this the LD Carers Butty Group are also having to reform, as the previous contact list held by Sharing Caring Project cannot be passed over to the group due to Data Protection Legislation. The group is therefore having, to not only re-create their own contact list, but also create a new contact email address, which is: ldcarersbuttygroup@gmail.com

Sheffield Carers Centre have allowed the group room access for their monthly meetings, with the next two meetings dates being:

  • Tuesday 28th February 2017 at Sheffield Carers Centre 12 noon to 2pm
  • Tuesday 28th March 2017 at Sheffield Carers Centre 12 noon to 2pm

If you wish to attend the LD Carers Butty Group, or have attended in the past and wish to continue attending, please could you email ldcarersbuttygroup@gmail.com with your contact email address, which will be kept in strict confidence.

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)
