Free Lifewise event to safeguard older people from crime

A free event warning people over the age of 65 about crimes – such as fraud and scams – will be held at the end of August.

The Post Office, Fire Service and Police along with other partners will be offering advice and support during a Community Engagement Event on Tuesday August 28th from 10.15am to 2.45pm at the Lifewise Centre in Hellaby, Rotherham.

The Centre is an interactive venue featuring a purpose-built set which is used for a variety of activities aimed at educating visitors in safety and citizenship with the ultimate aim of reducing crime and improving people’s quality of life.

Sessions during the event will cover subjects such as financial abuse, fire safety, doorstep crime and the Herbert Protocol, a scheme which encourages carers to compile useful information to be used if someone goes missing. There will also be stalls during the afternoon session featuring other groups who provide services for vulnerable older people.

The event is open to anyone in the county but is limited to 70 people so to make sure of a place please email lifewise.booking@southyorks.pnn.police.uk or telephone 01709 832455. The event is sponsored by the Post Office with a light lunch and drinks provided for everyone attending.

If you are part of a group/organisation interested in having a stall please email andy.foster@southyorks.pnn.police.uk.

Unfortunately transport to the event is not available.

When I moved to Sheffield nearly five years ago it was my "go to" organisation. I expect it to stay that way. All the staff and volunteers seem to pull out little gems of effort that disabled people like me couldn't do without. Professionally and personally - I love em :)

Disability Sheffield is a forward-thinking, energetic organisation doing a lot of positive work in Sheffield. I have no doubt they will continue to do so for a long time to come.
